CORE VALUES

Measures for Grow Up & Live Out

Christ Centered

Everything we do will be centered on Jesus Christ. He is the message of the Gospel (John 14:6, Acts 4:12), and He is the cornerstone by which the church is built (Ephesians 2:19-22). Jesus is also living inside everyone who repents and believes in the gospel (Galatians 2:20, John 14:23). There is no other name by which the church stands or falls (Acts 4:12). FBC Houston focuses solely on Jesus Christ as the center of everything (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Scriptural Authority

The only authority by which the church stands is through God’s Word – the Scriptures. People come and go, but the Scriptures stand forever (Isaiah 40:8). It is the Scriptures that reveal Jesus (Luke 24:27), and it is the Scriptures that direct the paths of Christians (Psalm 119:105, 2 Timothy 3:16). It is God’s authority that gives Scripture authority (2 Peter 1:21). FBC Houston stands upon the Authority of Scripture as God’s Word to mankind.

Genuine Community

Followers of Jesus Christ belong to a community called the church (Romans 12:4-5) where Christ is the head (Colossians 1:18). Church is not a building, but a gathering of people saved by God’s grace in Jesus. The church builds up one another, encourages one another, cares for one another, and worships Jesus with one another (1 Corinthians 14:26, Hebrews 10:25, Colossians 3:16). FBC Houston lives in genuine community with each other and with our neighbors.

Discipleship Focused

Within the community of the church, Jesus has commanded that His followers make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). Making disciples does not happen accidentally, but it happens through intentional efforts to teach all that Jesus has commanded (2 Timothy 2:2). Discipleship happens in groups where there is teaching and accountability in following Jesus (John 8:31, Proverbs 27:17). FBC Houston seeks to foster intentional discipleship for the purpose of growing in faith and living out faith.

Mission Driven

All churches should aim to live out the mission that Jesus Christ has given to His followers (Matthew 28:18-20). The mission of the church is to proclaim the gospel to anyone and everyone who will hear (Mark 16:15, Matthew 24:14). While the mission of Jesus Christ does involve meeting physical needs (Hebrews 13:16, James 1:27), the main thrust of a mission driven church revolves around the proclamation of the gospel (Romans 10:13-15). FBC Houston strives to participate in God’s plan of salvation by being mission driven for the world.
