Discipleship

What is Discipleship?

Discipleship is what happens after the moment of salvation. Jesus says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19). It is Jesus’ command that we become and make disciples of all nations.

But, what does that mean? Jesus continues in the same paragraph, “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). Ultimately, disciples are committed followers of Jesus. Disciples are learners of Jesus’ teaching so that they can live out His teaching.

Discipleship is the process of learning more about Jesus and living for Jesus. We can learn more about Jesus through personal Bible studies, church on Sundays, Sunday School Bible Studies, Wednesday night Bible Studies, and many other ways. We can live for Jesus through loving those around us, telling other people about Jesus, giving our finances for the Gospel, going on Mission Trips, serving in our church, and many other ways.

Discipleship is a process of growing in Christ and living for Christ. We never fully arrive at the finish line, but we make strides everyday to be more like Jesus. It is God’s will that we grow in Christ and live for Christ (2 Peter 3:18, Romans 12:1).
