Dr. Daniel R. Heeringa, Pastor

Daniel has been the pastor of First Baptist Church since 2007.  He grew up in Greenville, SC, and went to college at
Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC.  He continued his education with a Master of Divinity degree from New
Orleans Baptist Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree at Reformed Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

With Daniel’s call, God gave him a passion for the church and for discipling believers through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God.  He feels it is only with time and investment in a church that you can understand the pain on every pew
and minister to the needs of the congregation effectively.

Daniel likes a good trail, a good football game, a good read, and a good cup of coffee. He often walks or rides to the tunes of Third Day, Boston, Need to Breathe, Journey, or Adele.  He is blessed to have riding with him throughout life his wife of twenty years, Dawn, and his two children, Abby and Millie Cate.

Kenny Adams, Music Minister

Brother Kenny came to First Baptist, Houston, in June of 2005.  He's a native of Kosciusko, MS, and received his BME and MME from Mississippi College.  Bro. Kenny and his wife, Betty, have two daughters.  Brooke lives in Clinton, MS, and teaches first grade at Clinton Park Elementary.  Rebecca, her husband Ryan, and their son Lawson live in Canton, MS.  Rebecca is a speech pathologist at Magnolia Speech School in Jackson.

Kenny has a passion for using the universal language of music to reach people for Christ.  Some books he finds helpful to his ministry are:  Matthew Henry's Commentary, Strong's Concordance, Hymns of Our Faith, 101 Hymn Stories, and several
translations of the Bible.  He has enjoyed reading several of the books about Duck Dynasty's Robinson family, as well as local authors, such as Laverne Collins and Merle Temple.

Brother Kenny's musical taste covers a wide range of artists.  Some of his secular favorites include The Beatles, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, and Jimmy Buffet.  His Christian favorites include Steven Curtis Chapman, Casing Crowns, Larnelle Harris, and Keith Getty.

Greg Simmons, Student Minister

Greg came to First Baptist, Houston, on July 23, 2013. He and his wife, Amanda, have three children: Grey, Leigh-Anna, and Sophie.

Greg attended high-school in Shannon, MS, and then went on to Itawamba Community College on a Tennis Scholarship. After two years at ICC, he transferred to Mississippi State University, graduating there in 2006. He then attended Mid-America
Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with a Masters in Christian Education.

In ministry, Greg is most specifically passionate for the family.  What gets him excited is when a family is all in  with discipleship in Christ and proclamation of Jesus Christ to others.  It looks different in many ways from family to family, but seeing that take place is exciting to him. Greg's end goal is for children, students, and parents to know Christ and glorify Him by making him known to others.

Favorites on Greg's bookshelf:
Parent Fuel  by Barry St. Clair
Don’t Waste Your Life  by John Piper
Good to Great  by Jim Collins

Greg's Christian music favorites are Skillet, David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, and Mac Powell.  His secular choices include AC/DC, Boston, Journey, and basically all classic rock.
